Children's Mobile Clinic | Pediatric Clinic, Online Consultation & Home Visit
The vision of the clinic is to provide evidence-based medical care to socioculturally and geographically underserved children towards a holistic well being.
The mission is to address the gap in health care through online, clinic stations and mobile clinics with Excellence, Integrity and Equity.
The history of the clinic started on 2014 when the proponent was assigned as a Municipal Health Officer in Busuanga, Palawan where he witnessed high disease morbidity and death simply because patients, especially the children, cannot reach the health facilities for lack of information and transportation.
The geographical and cultural situation of Palawan, brought by the ethnicity of some residents and inter-island houses , created inaccessibility to healthcare. The proponent also spent time working with the remotely located indigenous people of Zamboanga and Mindoro.
The rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, catalyzed the initiative. The proponent conducted a free online consultation and incorporated a survey which showed preference of the patients to be visited at home.
The mobile clinic was setup on July 14, 2020 with multiple researches to decrease cost and lessen fees. The clinic was found to be widely and positively accepted in Cavite where most homes are remotely located. Some had no means of going out with the quarantine restrictions, lack of transportation and closure of most health facilities.
The mission and vision was affirmed when parents gave testaments appreciating the help and convenience the service has offered as they have to juggle household chores and taking care of the kids. The online component of the mobile clinic further reached areas such as in Mindanao, Visayas, and even Africa. The internet offered a venue for check-up , but with considerations of data privacy and consent among the parents.
More appreciations and support were received by the clinic. When parking in malls or buildings, there were more “underserved” children who were found. “Underserved children” became prominent regardless of socio-economic status because of the pandemic. Indeed, there is still much room for serving our countrymen. This will hopefully be a model for underused vehicles in most institutions.
